Then the tourism industry could be for you and this programme is the perfect first step to discovering that!

This hands-on certificate will give you a great understanding of the tourism and travel industry. At the same time, it's open entry (which means you don't need any previous academic qualifications) and provides a great taster of what studying at a Polytechnic is all about, preparing you for further diploma- or degree-level study.

You'll develop your process for researching, your computer skills and your time management skills - whilst gaining confidence through exploring your own personal learning style. You'll gain the skills to deliver a quality visitor experience through your knowledge of tourism destinations and will also be able to provide excellent customer service and information advice, and contribute to the overall effectiveness of a tourism business. Graduates will be able to work in a variety of roles in the tourism industry, in areas such as customer service and sales, and in frontline, attraction and activity positions.

Or, you may choose to continue with your study. By successfully completing this programme, you will have guaranteed entry into the: New Zealand Diploma in Tourism and Travel (Level 5); New Zealand Diploma in Business (Level 5); Bachelor of Applied Management

What's the workload?

You'll need to spend about 18 hours each week in lectures and practical work sessions. You'll also be expected to spend about 12 hours per week in self-directed study.

Entry criteria

Open entry.

International students will be individually assessed to ensure you are ready for this study.

IELTS test: General or Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5; TOEFL paper based test (PBT): Score of 530 (with an essay score of 4.5 TWE); TOEFL internet based test (IBT): Score of 46 (with a writing score of 14); Cambridge english examinations: B2 First or B2 First for schools with a score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill; Pearson test of english (ACADEMIC): PTE (Academic) score of 42 with no band score lower than 36; Language Certificate: B2 Communicator IESOL (LRWS) with PASS and no less than Pass in each skill.
