This exciting degree is for those involved or looking to move into career planning and development with students, clients or organisations.

It has streams in education, business and coaching so you can become skilled in the area where you want to build your career.

The full three year degree is perfect for someone wanting to enter the career development field.

Those who are currently working in career development or have related work experience, may apply for recognition of credit for individual courses up to 240 credits.

A qualification in Career Development at level 6 or higher fulfils part of the requirements of professional membership for Career Development Association of New Zealand (CDANZ).

Structure & Timetable

Expect to spend around five to nine hours per course each week to be able to successfully complete this programme (depending on when your assessments are due and your previous knowledge of a topic).

This programme is mostly completed online with some on-campus workshops, dependent on the courses you are enrolled in.

Entry criteria

Students are required to complete international qualifications equivalent to New Zealand NCEA Level 3. Entry requirements vary from country to country.

Or A relevant qualification at Level 4 on the NZQF or equivalent.

English language requirements

You must have a level of English sufficient to be able to study at this level. Those learners whose first language is not English must have:

  • IELTS: Academic score of 6.0 with no band score lower than 5.5
  • TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) - Score of 60 (with a writing score of 18)
  • Cambridge English Examinations - B2 First, or B2 First for schools, or C1 Advanced, or C2 Proficiency with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PTE (Academic) score of 50 with no band score lower than 42

Special entry

If you are aged 20 years or above and have not met the general admission or entry requirements for the programme but your skills, education or work experience indicate that you have a reasonable chance of success, you may be eligible for special admission.

Special admission will be granted at the discretion of the relevant Head of Department or delegate. You may be required to successfully complete a foundation, bridging or tertiary introductory programme as a condition of entry into higher level programmes.
