Make your mark in the hairdressing world as an intermediate stylist.
You could get an intermediate job styling hair at a top salon or on a film set. It’s a creative career where you'll get to develop your own personal style and help people feel their best.
This qualification will give you the technical skills you need to master complex hair styling techniques.
You will graduate with experience in cutting, colouring and styling hair, as well as hair-up techniques for real clients in an Auckland salon or in MIT’s very own salon ‘Hair at MIT’.
Career opportunities
Intermediate positions in salons leading on to work on cruise liners, as company technicians, in salon management or ownership, as artistic team demonstrators, trainers, tutors, television, stage or screen work.
Programme structure
You will need to complete the below four courses (120 credits):
891.425 Foundation Styling and Salon Practice (30 credits)
891.426 Foundation Colouring and Chemical Treatments (30 credits)
891.427 Intermediate Cutting (30 credits)
891.428 Intermediate Colouring and Chemical Treatments (30 credits)
Further study
Management certificate, diploma or degree level training.
Academic Requirements
The New Zealand Certificate in Hairdressing (Salon Support) (Level 3) or equivalent skills and knowledge.
IELTS test: Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5; TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT): Score of 530 (with an essay score of 4.5 TWE); TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT): Score of 46 (with a writing score of 14); Cambridge English Examinations: B2 First or B2 First for schools with a score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill; OET - Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests; Pearson Test of English (Academic): PTE (Academic) score of 42 with no band score lower than 36.
