Summary

The New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills (Level 3) - Joinery Allied Trades will help you become work-ready to start an apprenticeship or entry-level job in the industry. This qualification is suitable for people new to, or intending to enter, the construction trades sector.

Students spend three days per week on the course and gain work experience with local businesses where possible.

You will learn:

The strands recognise the knowledge and skills required of entrants to allied trades or joinery trades. The allied trades include painting and decorating, roofing, interior systems and exterior plastering. Joinery roles include a high level of craftmanship and machinery operation making doors, windows, kitchens, stairs and all range of cabinetry.

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the wider construction trades sector with work-ready people able to enter the construction trades as a labourer or an apprentice who have developed essential transferable skills and underpinning knowledge applicable to a wide range of construction-related trades.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of this qualification will be able to enter employment in trades within the construction and related industry as a labourer or an apprentice. With additional training and/or experience they may go on to further roles in the construction industry such as joiner, plasterer, painter or roofer.

Satisfactory Completion

To satisfactorily complete New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills (Level 3) - Joinery Allied Trades programme and be awarded the New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills (Level 3) with strands in Joinery and Allied Trades qualification the student must successfully achieve:-

  • A minimum of 120 credits in accordance with the programme schedule for the New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills (Level 3) – Joinery Allied Trades.
  • The student will normally be expected to complete the New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills (Level 3) - Joinery Allied Trades full-time over 34 weeks (plus breaks) or part-time over 2 years.

Entry criteria

  • Applicants should be a minimum of 16 years of age and able to complete the physical requirements of the programme.

Language Requirements

  • IELTS test - General or Academic score of 5 with no band score lower than 5
  • TOEFL Paper based test (pBT) - Score of 500 (with an essay score of 4 TWE)
  • TOEFL Internet based test (iBT) - Score of 35 (with a writing score of 14)
  • Cambridge English Examination - B2 First or B2 First for schools with a score of 154. No less than 154 in each skill.
  • OET - Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests
  • NZCEL - a) Expiring Level b) Current: a) Level 3 (General) or (Workplace) b) Level 3 (General)
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PTE (Academic) score of 36 with no band score lower than 36
  • Language Cert - B1 Achiever IESOL (LRWS) with PASS and no less than PASS in each skill
