Summary

The NZ Certificate in Baking (Generalist) [Level 4] programme is essentially hands-on training. You will be taken out of the classroom and into the real-world environment of a local commercial bakery kitchen and shop in Hawke’s Bay.

In our bakery training environment you will work as an effective member of the team and learn to communicate clearly with customers and your colleagues. You will develop a solid background of general bakery knowledge.

Study is based on bakery techniques research, and its culinary specialities. Formal work experience in industry is also an important part of the programme, building professional relationships and connections to employers.

Delivered over one year, this programme is designed to help you develop a solid background of general bakery knowledge.

EIT’s School of Tourism and Hospitality baking programme is essentially hands-on training. You will be taken out of the classroom and into the real-world environment of a local commercial bakery kitchen and shops. In our bakery training environment you will work as an effective member of the team and learn to communicate clearly with customers and your colleagues. Having consulted with industry when developing this programme an EIT baking graduate should be well positioned and equipped for finding work in this field.

Career Opportunities and Outcomes

With a worldwide shortage of skilled people in the industry, graduates may take their place in the workforce, progress to further industry-based training or progress onto the NZ Diploma in Cookery (Advanced) [Level 5] – Patisserie strand.
