The Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education will stimulate you to think critically about your practice. Papers cover teaching and learning in higher education, and the impact of globalisation, technology and other factors on higher education organisations.

It’s designed for academics and support staff in higher education interested in a high-level professional development and learning opportunities that lead to a formal qualification.

What you study

You need to successfully complete 120 points.

Papers will be taught face-to-face over three to four intensive days (usually on a Saturday), and there will also be some online discussions.

The approach is collegial and collaborative, with a focus on applying the theory to your own practice.

Complete the following papers

EDUC846 Who am I as a Higher Education Teacher? (15 points)
EDUC849 Assessment for Learning in Higher Education (15 points)
EDUC853 Focusing a Critical Lens on Curriculum (15 points)

And choose 75 points from

EDUC847 Innovative Spaces for Learning in Higher Education (15 points)
EDUC851 What Future for the Higher Education Teacher? (15 points)
EDUC854 Higher Education Leadership and Collegial Practice (15 points)
EDUC855 Research Project in Higher Education (30 points)

You may also be able to complete 30 points from other postgraduate papers with the approval of the programme leader.

Entry criteria

Minimum entry requirements

Must have completed a bachelor’s degree, or equivalent

In exceptional circumstances, an applicant who has an appropriate combination of academic and professional experience deemed equivalent to the above may be considered for admission.

It is recommended that applicants have prior higher education work experience.

English Language Requirements:

IELTS (Academic) 6.5 overall with 7.0 in Writing and all other bands 6.0 or higher; or equivalent; TOEFL iBT score of 90; Certificate in English for Academic Study (CertEAS) with A grade; GIE with B+ grade; CAE minimum overall score of 176; PTE minimum overall score of 58.
