Summary

Gain the academic skills required for higher-level study in sport science, nutrition or health promotion

This six-month programme is designed to build your skills for long term academic and career success by ensuring the essential layers of learning are in place. It covers a variety of subjects aimed at preparing you for the New Zealand Certificate in Exercise, or the New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation Level 4, which then leads to the Bachelor of Applied Science which is available in sport and exercise science, human nutrition or physical activity and health promotion.

You will take core courses designed to equip you with fundamental academic and mathematical skills, then a selection of courses specifically required to advance in your chosen pathway. It is possible to study part-time up to 2 years.

Career opportunities

This certificate will prepare you for further study by developing your basic and general academic skills before you embark on full time certificate, diploma or degree programmes.

Study pathways

The Certificate in Study and Career Preparation Level 3 (Sports, Nutrition and Health Promotion Pathway) leads directly to the Certificate in Exercise. It will also prepare you for the Certificate in Study and Career Preparation Level 4, which is required to enrol in the Bachelor of Applied Science which is available in sport and exercise science, human nutrition or physical activity and health promotion.

IELTS test - Academic score of 5.0 with no band score lower than 5.0

SPEAKING - 5.0
READING - 5.0
WRITING - 5.5
LISTENING - 5.0

TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT) - Score of 500 (with an essay score of 4 TWE

TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) - Score of 35 or higher (with a writing score of 14)

Cambridge English Qualifications - B2 First or B2 First for Schools with a score of 154. No less than 154 in each skill

Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PTE (Academic) score of 36 with no band score lower than 36
