Otago's unique Applied Science degrees link the excitement of science and the power of technology with the challenges of business. Applied Science programs help graduates to become innovative thinkers with an entrepreneurial spirit, the very attributes successful New Zealanders are well-known for. As a graduate you'll be in better control of your career, able to contribute to the success of any organisation. And if innovation attracts you, an Applied Science degree combined with work experience will provide the right background if you decide to start your own business.
Why study Applied Geology?
Applied Geology provides unique opportunities to combine theory and practice with real-world experience to make a tangible contribution to local and global challenges.
By using New Zealand as your laboratory, you can tailor your undergraduate degree to any number of future opportunities and career pathways.
You can choose to combine your applied science major with other subjects in the arts, business and sciences, and position yourself for a successful and valuable career that makes a difference to the Earth, the environment and our communities.
A BAppSc in Applied Geology provides all the technical and practical skills you need to thrive in a wide range of careers. Knowledge of real-world issues and experience working with industry partners and datasets make our graduates internationally competitive in:
environmental management and sustainability
transition to low-carbon economy
waste disposal solutions and best practices
geo-hazards and infrastructure
mineral and energy resources
water and soil management
