Summary

This Level 5 course is your springboard to the future, setting you up to work in a New Zealand IT environment or pathway onto further studies in Information Technology. Every organisation needs technical support workers to keep their business humming – and in New Zealand they’re in short supply. Learn to install IT hardware and systems software, and build your operational knowledge of networking, database administration and IT service management. Tackle troubleshooting, problem solving and interface design and learn how to create basic computer applications. Plus, you’ll hone your communication skills, and gain an understanding of professional, legal and ethical principles and practices in New Zealand’s IT sector.

Content

There are six modules that include the following topics:

  • Modern Data Communications
  • Applied Communications
  • Systems and Applications Support
  • Systems Installation and Maintenance
  • Application Design and Development
  • Database Development and Design

Outcome

Graduates will be able to demonstrate an understanding, knowledge and skills in computer systems, application and system software and networks support and configuration in the New Zealand IT environment. They will:

  • Show the necessary knowledge and skills to develop basic computer applications and administer databases.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the current user support standards, professional, legal, and ethical principles and practices in New Zealand.

Entry criteria

To enter this course, you will need:

  • A Certi?cate in Computing Level 3 or Level 4 certificate in Computing; or
  • Successful completion of New Zealand Year 12 secondary schooling; or international equivalent; and/or appropriate related work experience.
  • Applicants will need to be 18 years or older to apply.

English language requirement:

  • Provide evidence of an IELTS overall band score of at least 5.5 (Academics), with no individual band less than 5.0
  • Have a Pearson Academic Test score of 42 and above with no individual band score less than 36
  • In Language Certificate have a B2 Communicator Test HIGH PASS and above with no less than a pass in each skill
