This three-year degree is to provide high-quality and motivated jewellery manufacturing professionals to meet the growing needs of the New Zealand and International Jewellery trades.

What will you learn

The aim of this new three-year degree is to provide high-quality and motivated jewellery manufacturing professionals to meet the needs of New Zealand and international Jewellery Trades. Roles may include Goldsmith, CAD jewellery, bench jeweller, freelance practitioners.

​The programme will develop students into professionals that are able to manage all phases of design, from initial inspiration, analysis and development to finishing the final product. Students are encouraged to visit and participate in exhibitions; fashion shows and interacts with senior professionals in the industry.

Methods of Delivery
This programme will be delivered with an integrated mix of directed classroom lectures and practical activities with a focus on building robust theoretical concepts and advanced practical knowledge required for the application of skills.

The delivery will include working sessions, technical and practical workshops, authentic projects, research activities, group and self-reflection activities.
Guest speakers from the industry and lecturers from other international institutions will be engaged at regular intervals to enable and present learners with current and industry best practices.
In addition, students would be encouraged to visit and participate in exhibitions; fashion shows and interacts with senior professionals in the industry.

Skills taught

Practical goldsmithing skills (through comprehensive hand-making, digital and other manufacturing techniques) required in creating fine jewellery.
Advanced specialist skills required to develop and generate creative design solutions to manufacture jewellery.
Research skills
Analysis of a broad range of information to independently select and apply critical thinking in the management of unfamiliar and sometimes complex projects.
How to select, adapt and apply a range of professional business acumen relevant to their own practice.
Independently manage projects and present their work in a variety of contexts.
