It’s about contests for power and how we make decisions in society: who gets what, when and how, from the local community to the global level. It’s concerned with the conflict of ideas and values. It has to do with who governs, and how and why decisions that affect all of us (such as how much students should pay to study at university or whether the UN should sanction military interventions) are made.

All students must meet university entrance requirements to be admitted to the University.

Specific requirements

To enter the Postgraduate Diploma in Arts you will have been awarded or qualified for the Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in the intended postgraduate subject, or equivalent.

You will need to have achieved a grade average in your bachelor degree that demonstrates an adequate level of preparation for the postgraduate qualification. This normally means that a B- grade average or above is required.

You will need to provide verified copies of all academic transcripts for studies taken at all universities other than Massey University.

International English Language Requirements:

  • IELTS - 6.5 overall and minimum 6.0 in each band
  • TOEFL iBT – Overall score 90, minimum 20 in Writing
  • Cambridge English - C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency with a score of 176. No less than 169 in each skill.
  • NCEL - Level 5
  • PTE - 58 overall and minimum 50 in each communicative skills
  • LanguageCert - C1 Expert IESOL (LRWS) with HIGH PASS and no less than Pass in each skill or C2 Mastery IESOL (LRWS) with PASS and no less than Pass in each skill
