A Master of Commerce degree will allow you to learn more about your chosen subject area, critically view the world and carry out an independent piece of research. These knowledge, skills and competencies mean MCom graduates are well-prepared for professional roles and business consulting.
If you have been following the Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand programme, study in the MCom counts as one year of professional experience.
Students who have qualified for a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours or equivalent may be admitted to the MCom by thesis only in that major (one year, worth 120 points).

Qualification structure
The Master of Commerce degree consists of 180 points of which between 90-120 points is coursework (between six and nine courses), and a 90-point thesis or a 60-point dissertation.
Management involves creating organisational performance. People in a variety of roles practise management. Some are line managers and executives who manage teams and systems, others manage specific functions or processes in an organisation.
Studying management explores how organisations function, and how you can influence their performance. The subject is broad and you will cover a range of topics, including leadership, business strategy, organisational behaviour, people management, operations management, change, and innovation.
Career opportunities
Management graduates are found in every kind of organisation. They start their careers in a wide range of trainee management, marketing or market research roles and advance into positions as business consultants, strategic business analysts and senior managers in the commercial, public and not-for-profit sectors.
