This programme is designed for those in a management or supervisor role in the primary industry or those who have relevant experience and are ready to move into a management or supervisor role.

This qualification will provide you with the knowledge and skills to manage a wide range of primary industry business operations. This may include farming, horticulture, fishing, apiculture, and other similar activities.

Graduates will be capable of working in an independent management capacity.

This programme uses blended delivery – combining in person, online, and in-work learning.

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

  • Develop, implement, and review a business plan for primary industry business operations to meet performance requirements.
  • Plan, implement, and review financial requirements using current and emerging technology to inform primary industry business decision making.
  • Plan, implement and review staff employment and work allocation, and apply interpersonal and leadership skills to monitor staff performance, health, safety, and well-being requirements in a primary industry business.
  • Plan, implement and review the environmental sustainability requirements of a primary industry business.
  • Determine current business position, and develop a strategic plan for the future direction of a primary industry business.

Course Information

This programme consist of 120 credits. The courses includes;

  • Business Leadership and Management (15 Credits)
  • Management Accounting and Finance (15 Credits)
  • Human Resource Management (15 Credits)
  • Environment and Sustainability (15 Credits)
  • Health, Safety and Wellbeing (15 Credits)
  • Strategic Management and Planning (15 Credits)
  • Primary Industry Business Planning (15 Credits)

Entry criteria

Academic Requirements

  • NCEA Level 3
  • equivalent academic achievement on a case-by-case basis
  • at the discretion of the Executive Dean.

English language Requirement: IELTS - Academic: Score of 5.5 with no band lower than 5; TOEFL (iBT) - Score of 46 (with a writing score of 14); Cambridge English Qualifications - B2 with score of 162; no less than 154 in each skill; OET - Minimum Grade C or 200 in all subtests; NZCEL - Level 4 (General or Employment); and Pearson Test of English (Academic) - Score of 42 with no band less than 36.

In addition to this, international applications under the age of 20 must have NCEA equivalency (refer to Business Development International).
