Summary

Develop your creative skills with this 15 week New Zealand Certificate.

You will learn how to:

  • apply for entry level positions within the arts and/or creative industries or higher level study within the arts and/or design disciplines.
  • provide a strong understanding of the Aotearoa New Zealand cultural sector to enhance the creative industries.
  • produce work through applying creative processes in a studio based environment that reflects professional practices and conventions within arts and/or design contexts.

Programme Specific Information

This qualification is a hands-on studio based programme which enables the learner to explore, investigate and develop a range of core skills relating to art and design. The NZ Certificate aims to provide a strong grounding in a range of art and design media. It is designed for school leavers and/ or adults who want to develop their current skills and consider a future pathway into upper level programmes, cultural and community based initiatives.

Additional expenses

Learners will receive a Course Materials List in week 1. Learners are discouraged from purchasing materials prior to classes starting.

  • A4 unlined Workbook/Visual Diary x 4 (1 per course)
  • Acrylic paints (1 large white, 6 primary tube colours), Brushes (flat, round, nylon & hogfitch), Drawing materials (dry media), acrylic binder medium, Gesso (optional), canvas, MDF board, Perspex, Exacto knife, (cut-off knife), Stretcher wood (optional) found materials.
  • Toolbox (storage), Old shirt, Staple Gun (optional)
  • SLR Camera - Cell phone equivalent – required (SLR can be hired through the Art Office)
  • External Hard Drive (Pen Drive or larger Hard Drive) - required.
  • Stationery and printing costs: variable - dependent on the learner's art focus

Future study options

Graduates can automatically transition into the NZ Diploma in Arts and Design (Level 5)

Entry criteria

Students must also meet the English language proficiency requirements as below:

  • IELTS 5.5 (general or academic) with no band score lower than 5
  • TOEFL (pBT) score of 530 (with an essay score of 4.5 TWE)
  • TOEFL (iBT) score of 46 (with a writing score of 14)
  • Cambridge English Examinations: B2 First or B2 First for schools with a score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill
  • OET: Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests
  • PTE (Academic) score of 42 with no band score lower than 36
  • LanguageCert - B2 Communicator IESOL (LRWS) with PASS and no less than Pass in each skill
