Summary

This programme is designed for students who wish to pursue further study in the area of sport and exercise science. This programme will help students to pursue a career in the sport and exercise science area, or the programme can be used to complement a student's first degree with specific sports and exercise science knowledge and skills.

Students will be able to specialise in one of the following key pathways:

Strength and conditioning
Clinical exercise science (this pathway is REPS accredited)

Work placement and practical classes are a core part of this programme.

This programme may lead into postgraduate study including a Master of Science (Sport and Exercise Science).

What you'll learn

The Graduate Diploma is comprised of 1 compulsory and 7 elective modules totalling a minimum of 120 credits. Each candidate's final module selection must be signed-off by the programme co-ordinator, prior to enrolment.

Career/further opportunities

The Graduate Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science may lead to employment as an exercise consultant, exercise therapist or a rehabilitation coach.

Entry criteria

Candidates are required to:
i) be an three year Allied Health or Physical Education related degree graduate from a New Zealand Institution or an Approved and Accredited Institution overseas, or
ii) be able to demonstrate appropriate equivalent practical, professional or educational experience.

English language requirements
Candidates who have English as a second language are required to have an International English Language Test System (IELTS) score of 6.0, with no individual band score lower than 5.5; or equivalent.
