Summary

Develop your creative skills with this one-year Diploma. Each paper is project based and aims to help you develop your own style and specialisation while introducing you to the bigger picture of the creative sector and the opportunities within this field.

About this diploma:

  • This qualification is designed for learners with broad knowledge and skills in arts and/or design who wish to specialise in a selected area.
  • The creative industries and cultural sector in Aotearoa New Zealand will benefit from graduates who can critically analyse research findings, critically evaluate work, and present resolved work in a real-world context.
  • Graduates will be able to independently select and apply a range of processes in a specialised area of arts and/or design.

Programme Specific Information

This one-year Diploma caters to those learners who want to develop their art & design skills. Offering eight core papers learners build technical confidence and expand ideas using practical based methods. Students must achieve the New Zealand Diploma in Arts and Design (Level 5) to gain entry into this programme or have equivalent skills, knowledge, work experience or study.

Artist/Designer, Artist Assistant, Gallery Assistant, Museum Worker, cultural organisations, Intermediate level positions in arts, craft and design industries (e.g. production and/or design roles, Arts administrator, Sales and advertising and Self-employment).

Further study options

2022 will offer students the opportunity to study towards Level 7 Bachelor Degree in the Art and Design field.

Entry criteria

  • New Zealand Certificate in Arts and Design (Level 5); or
  • Equivalent knowledge, skills, work experience or study.

Students must also meet the English language proficiency requirements as below:

  • IELTS (Academic) band score of 6.0 with no band score lower than 5.5
  • TOEFL (pBT) score of 550 (with an essay score of 5 TWE)
  • TOEFL (iBT) score of 60 (with a writing score of 18)
  • Cambridge English Examinations: B2 First, or B2 First for schools, or C1 Advanced, or C2 Proficiency with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill
  • OET: Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests
  • PTE (Academic) score of 50 with no band score lower than 42
  • NZCEL Level 4 Academic
  • LanguageCert - C1 Expert IESOL (LRWS) with PASS and no less than Pass in each skill
