Summary

UCOL’s New Zealand Certificate in Entertainment and Event Technology (Level 4) will provide you with the technical skills you need to enter the entertainment industry.

The New Zealand Certificate in Entertainment and Event Technology Level 4 is designed for people who want to become entertainment technicians. This programme covers the industry's general practices, processes, and protocols, and has lighting, live sound, and video strands. This programme will allow you to gain the knowledge, skills, and experience to operate safely under supervision.

This programme uses blended delivery – combining in person, online, and in-work learning. Your work-integrated learning within the entertainment and event industry will provide you with much-needed industry experience.

Career & Study Outcomes

Graduates of the New Zealand Certificate in Entertainment and Event Technology Level 4 will have the skills to enter the entertainment industry in a technician role or can progress onto the Bachelor of Creative Media (Level 7) to expand their skillset.

Course Information

This programme consist of 120 Credits. The courses includes:

  • Entertainment and Event Industry Foundations (30 Credits)
  • Entertainment and Event Industry Practice (30 Credits)
  • Industry Practice – Lighting Systems (30 Credits)
  • Industry Practice – Live Sound Systems (30 Credits)
  • Industry Practice – Video Systems (30 Credits)

Entry criteria

To be eligible for entry to the programme, applicants must hold at least one of the following:

  • NCEA Level 2; or
  • equivalent skills and experience; or
  • on a case by case basis at the discretion of the Executive Dean.

Additional Requirements

All applicants are required to:

  • Hold, or be in the process of obtaining, unit standard 17600 Explain safe work practices for working at heights; and
  • Meet with the Programme Leader (to discuss the programme and industry environment).

English language Requirement: IELTS - General or Academic: Score of 5.5 with no band lower than 5; TOEFL (iBT) - Score of 46 (with a writing score of 14); Cambridge English Qualifications - B2 with score of 162; no less than 154 in each skill; OET - Minimum Grade C or 200 in all subtests; NZCEL - Level 3 (Applied); and Pearson Test of English (Academic) - Score of 42 with no band less than 36.

Under 20 years of age

In addition to this, international applicants under 20 years of age must have NCEA equivalency.
