Summary

Built in 2004 Alfriston College is a modern, multi-cultural school on the edge of Auckland City with easy access to the countryside, city life and the airport.  Our small International Student programme means that International Students integrate quickly with our local students.

Alfriston College is dedicated to developing and supporting lifelong independent learners created through an environment that fosters a sense of Belonging, values Learning and expects Success.

We have a committed staff who will support and guide you in all you do. We have an innovative approach to learning which will get you thinking, along with a wide range of co-curricular activities, which will get you involved. We have a strong Whanau (house) system that will help you belong.

We welcome International Students from Years 9 to 13.  We have students who come for a short stay to experience a different culture and improve their English and students who stay for up to five years to gain NCEA for entrance to University here or abroad.

Here at Alfriston we do all we can to provide an individual approach to learning with our innovative new learning programme.

We offer:

  • all the traditional subjects delivered as Project-based and Passion classes.
  • an exceptional Outdoor Education Programme. Our teacher of Outdoor Education is highly experienced in outdoor adventures and  offers additional trips each term for International Students.
  • "Kiwi Language and Culture" classes that teach English through "kiwi" experiences.
  • Award winning Perfromance and Music Technology classes
  • Painting, Photography, Design and Spatial Product Design

Project Classes pose a driving question to focus the learning.  Each project class encompasses two-three disciplines or “traditional” subjects and assesses learning  through NCEA achievement standards for all disciplines.

Learners may choose a project such as “Architecture of the Future” – What is the future of Architecture?  In this class Learners will think creatively about social and environmental issues, analyse historical and contemporary architecture and use computer modelling  technologies.   This class integrates the disciplines of Mathematics, English and Technology.

Passion Classes pose a driving question or have a focus on learning in a single discipline.  Each passion class provides assessment through NCEA achievement standards.   Passion classes cover a wide range of disciplines such as English, Mathematics, Science, Social Sciences, Health and Physical Education, Sport, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Learning Languages and Technologies.
