Aotea College is a multicultural, co-educational state school set in a stunning landscape in the Porirua Basin and is within 20 minutes of Wellington City and the beautiful Kapiti Coast.

Our students represent all aspects of New Zealand culture.

Students have access to an extensive curriculum and a range of cultural and sporting activities including a range of trips, tramps and camps.

Our students, staff and community build strong relationships and support each other to develop excellence in many ways.

We value hospitality and caring for each other, we like to provide a very welcoming environment. We know that the friendships and experiences gained at Aotea College will help our international students establish lasting friendships and a connection with our college.

Aotea College is committed to maintaining an international programme on a scale which ensures personal care and support for each student.

The International Department includes Jamie O’Connor (Director), Tricia Cox (Program Coordinator) and Marika Last (Homestay Coordinator). Their focus is to work to support and monitor student learning and well-being at school and in their homestay.

Amongst our staff we have teachers who speak Japanese, Chinese, French and Spanish who can provide further assistance to students.

Our new buildings opened in Term 1 2020, making it the most modern learning environment in New Zealand.

Aotea College provides students with access to a wide range of subjects across the senior school. This allows them to pursue their passions and achieve high standards.

All students study for NCEA including subjects which lead to university entrance.

NCEA is an internationally recognised qualification. Most students leaving Aotea College go on to study at either university or at a polytechnic.

International students have successfully returned to school and university in their own countries while some have chosen to stay in New Zealand to complete their university education.

Aotea College encourages international students to take part in the many sporting and cultural activities in the school.

The school has a nationally recognised performing arts department. Our barbershop groups win national titles on a regular basis. Choirs, bands, soloists all have the opportunity to performance and achieve excellence. Drama and performing arts thrive.

International students are welcomed into Kapa Haka and other cultural groups .

Aotea College has a strong presence in traditional sports such as rugby, football, cricket, netball, volleyball, badminton and basketball.

Our location supports student involvement in water based sports with links to local yachting and boat clubs.

International Students have a regular opportunity to experience the very best of our region .

Students arriving in Term 1 take part in our Orientation Camp.

Students not undertaking exams in Terms 3 & 4 take part in a full outdoor program with experiences including rock climbing, surfing, kayaking and sightseeing.

We also offer P.E. outdoor education as a subject choice for students in Year 11&12.
