Summary

Christ’s College welcomes boys from many nationalities and backgrounds as part of its school community.

College welcomes international students at all year levels and encourages all students to become fully immersed in the life of the school. We foster a culture of innovation and excellence, underpinned by traditional values.

Students at College reap the benefit of small class sizes, enthusiastic and dedicated teachers, excellent pastoral care, outstanding facilities, a strong academic programme, and a wide range of cultural and sporting activities.

Our House system is renowned for its quality of care. When you come to College, you will become a valued member of one of our Houses.

Vertical organisation within each House promotes friendships across all age groups and leads to many mentoring and leadership opportunities. Housemasters work with each boy to develop his goals and to provide academic and pastoral support.

Our students aspire to achieve their best. A Christ’s College education enables them to develop skills and dispositions for success in a complex and ever changing world.

Facilities

College's four hectares of playing fields are situated at South Hagley Park. Known as the Christ's College cricket ground, this outstanding complex comprises three rugby fields, three football fields (in Terms 2 and 3), ten turf cricket pitches and a superb grass net training facility for cricket (in Terms 1 and 4).

College has another playing field on its main site, called Upper. In summer, Upper is used as a track and field facility, and in winter, it becomes a rugby field. Upper also has an all-weather astro turf area for tennis, hockey and cricket.

The Gym, and adjacent rooms, are used for the many and varied sporting competitions at interhouse and interschool level, including table tennis, basketball, volleyball, and badminton. The gym complex includes a newly revamped strength and conditioning area.

At Kerr's Reach, College has its own rowing shed from which the rowing club operate from over the summer terms and a rowing erg room situated at Cranmer.

College also has a five-lane 25m heated indoor swimming pool. It is an excellent facility for all forms of aquatic sports, including swimming, water polo, canoe polo, and physical education classes.

All other facilities that are required to assist with the school sport's programme are sourced from within the community.

More about Christ's College

Christ's College is an independent boarding and day school, established as part of the original Anglican foundation of Christchurch.

Core Christian virtues guide all that we do and how we act. Honesty, respect, justice and compassion create a caring and supportive environment at College, where boys feel comfortable to be themselves as they strive to reach their potential. Our mission is Each boy at his best.

Our campus is unique. It is a combination of heritage buildings alongside state-of-the-art modern learning spaces, with facilities at the cutting edge of technological excellence.

College’s greatest asset, however, is its talented teaching and support staff, who work to enable boundless opportunities to emerge for the boys. These highly qualified and committed people are supported by forward-thinking governance and a dedicated team of professional administrators. Together they ensure the school provides every opportunity for our boys to achieve at their best.
