Howick Intermediate provides middle schooling for 11 to 13 year old students. Our emphasis is on excellence, a broad education and ensuring all students are enabled to succeed in a happy, safe and caring environment.Our school is located in Howick, East Auckland, and is close to beautiful beaches, modern malls and transport.
We are a well-established school with a proud history and a long tradition of highly achieving students who have gone on to have a positive impact on both the local and international community. Our broad, holistic education fosters positive virtues, inquiry, creativity, critical thinking and global citizenship.
School facilities include specialist and technology blocks, a large field equipped with a fitness circuit, a library and information centre and a school hall. We are the only intermediate (middle school) in the area with a swimming pool.
There are a wide range of sporting and cultural opportunities for students. Cultural festivals, as well as, performances by the choir, orchestra, jazz band and rock bands make our school dynamic and stimulating.We have full language immersion tuition and a graded specialist ESOL programme. Students also have opportunities to compete in international examinations.
There is a well-established learning pathway for students in the Howick area with many of our students going to either Macleans College, Botany Downs Secondary College, Howick College or Pakuranga College.
We have successfully catered for international students for many years and have a wealth of experience in this area. We are able to arrange accommodation with caring and supportive Howick homestay families. Parents are kept well informed about the academic progress and well being of their children. International Competitions and Assessments for Schools
An opportunity for students to sit international exams in Digital Technologies, Science, Writing, Spelling, English and Mathematics.
Gifted Maths Programme
A programme for exceptionally able mathematicians, who will be exposed to a rich and varied maths programme. This involves opportunities to participate and compete in internal and external problem solving competition.
Gifted Literacy Programme
For high level literacy learning focussing on essay writing and responding critically to texts. There is also an opportunity to participate in the annual Auckland wide Kids Lit Quiz.

Mathex Competition
Students with limited English receive specialist help from a fully registered teacher and assistant. They are taught according to their English Language ability in small groups.
Hard Materials and Design
Students’ work with wood, metal and digital technology to design and make projects in our purpose equipped facility.
Food Technology
Students make delicious treats in our equipped kitchens, while learning the importance of food preparation and healthy food options.
Visual Art Programme
Students’ use a wide range of different media to sculpt, draw, paint, dye, build and mould projects. They also look at and model creations from famous artists.
Music Programme
Students are invited to join a school band, choir or one of our small musical groups as well as regular class time teachings in our specialist music room.
