Ilam is a very friendly and positive school where children strive for excellence in their scholastic, cultural and sporting pursuits and there are high expectations for behaviour.
The children who attend Ilam are considerate and supportive of each other and are fortunate to be offered a wealth of opportunities to spark their interests, feed their enthusiasm and extend their creativity. Whether it is programmes offered as part of the curriculum or extra-curricula activities, the range offered goes towards creating well-rounded individuals with a richness of experiences.
While all of the New Zealand Curriculum areas are taught, the emphasis of teaching and learning programmes is Maths and English in order to build a solid foundation for future learning.

Ilam School provides a high quality learning experience for all students. It provides a safe environment for every child with a strong emphasis on individual needs. The school adjoins Canterbury University, is close to shopping malls and has large playing fields. Children are offered a wide range of experiences through outdoor education,music and dance as well as a strong English language programme. All staff are experienced with teaching children from other cultures and enjoy the diversity this brings to their classrooms.Our school Motto is 'Celebrating Achievement, Celebrating Diversity'.
Ilam School provides high quality care and education for its international students. Their individual needs, progress and achievement are monitored closely and support for learning is provided through well planned ESOL lessons and by skilled teachers. Students are well integrated into the life of the school and community.
