Summary

Kenakena School is a school with heart and soul, a school that strives towards excellence in everything we do, and a school that is always exciting, motivating and positive. These aren't empty words, these are the very foundations of what Kenakena School is all about. Exciting! Motivating! Positive!

Kenakena is right in the heart of Paraparaumu Beach, a beautiful, diverse New Zealand community. We work together and we place a strong emphasis on rich learning, which simply means that everything we teach and learn is interconnected, allowing children to really understand the work they do.

Pastoral Care

Kenakena School has excellent structures in place for ensuring students are well cared for and is a signatory to the Education (Pastoral Care of International Students)Code of Practice 2016. We also have access to trusted adult translators to ensure communication with our students is clearly understood.

Learning the Language

International students at Kenakena School receive ESOL(English for Speakers of Other Languages) support, following an assessment of their English ability. Trained ESOL personnel work with students both in, and outside the classroom.

Homestay Accommodation

Our International Students are placed in homestay accommodation in the local community, usually close to the school. Homes are carefully chosen and monitored by our homestay coordinator throughout the year. Students may contact the coordinator at any time if they need help and advice. Kenakena School is a signatory to the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students. Each student is met at the airport and introduced to their homestay family and the school by an orientation programme facilitator.

More about Kenakena School

As well as enrolling International Students for long terms, Kenakena School has an exciting and unique International Student Short Stay Programme running for 1-4 weeks at the beginnning of Terms 1 and 3 (February and July/August).

Students enjoy a mixture of in-class time, beach, wildlife and museum excursions, sports, culture, crafts and english language tuition.  The students have Kenakena School buddies who join them for all the activities and help them increase their 'everyday english' vocabulary.

Students younger than 10 years old can be accompanied by their parents who often rent a holiday home on the Kapiti Coast and enjoy a family holiday.
