South Otago High School is located in Balclutha which is 80km south of the city of Dunedin. Founded in 1926, it is one of the oldest secondary schools outside of the main cities in the South Island.
We pride ourselves on being a welcoming community and we provide a safe and friendly environment for our students to learn and grow.
The current roll is 504, which makes us large enough to offer a broad curriculum but also small enough to offer individual attention to our learners.
Our goal is to provide students with educational opportunities that will challenge and enable them to achieve to the best of their ability and make an effective contribution as citizens.
We take great pride in our ability to welcome students from all over the world.
The school is located on a small rise in the middle of 17 hectares of grounds, comprising two rugby and two football fields, three t-ball and three softball diamonds, six netball and tennis courts, an astro-turf, two squash courts and two gymnasiums.
The teaching blocks are gradually being replaced with new light, airy and spacious buildings. We were delighted to announce the opening of our new technology block, the Molyneux block, in 2013. This modern teaching and learning space is a fabulous improvement for students and staff.
