Summary

TAURANGA GIRLS' COLLEGE

Our school is located in Tauranga, in the beautiful Bay of Plenty on the east coast of the North Island. With a population of approximately 140,000 it is the fastest growing city in New Zealand. The Bay of Plenty is famous for its sun, beaches and horticulture. Tauranga provides an excellent balance between large city living and facilities with the more relaxed lifestyle found in provincial New Zealand. It is just two and a half hours by car or 35 minutes by plane from Auckland International airport.

Tauranga Girls' College, the 'School of Choice for Girls' in the Bay' is an outstanding school that provides girl-centred learning at a very high level. The school's teaching and learning programme provides support in assisting students to develop their strengths and capabilities in the fields of Academics, Arts, and Sports. In the the senior school a student is able to choose from up to 50 different subjects, which they can use for their future studies.

The school facilities include a heated swimmng pool, sports halls, dance and music studios. The school uses Google classroom as part of its learning and teaching programme and has full wifi throughout the school. French, German, Spanish, Chinese and Te Reo Maori are offered as foreign languages. The school has high performing, competitive  choirs and orchestras. The jazz band is combined with our brother school, Tauranga Boys' College. Dance troupes compete at national events.

There are numerous sporting codes with the school being especially successful in hockey, netball, rugby sevens, underwater hockey, table tennis and athletics. While outdoor education is not offered as a subject, girls can participate in Aquatics and receive their PADI dive qualification.

The International Department has a culturally diverse group of girls from all over the world and provides pastoral support for students' wellbeing via its dedicated staff. The Department offers tiered ESOL lessons for second English language learners and has a dedicated Academic Dean. The Dean provides support in NCEA lessons and assistance with university applications so students can pathway to universities throughout the world.

All girls can be assured of a high quality, homestay family, as we believe a happy homestay experience is essential for a successful experience at TGC.
