Summary

Waitaki Girls’ High School warmly welcomes international students. As well as offering a wide range of subjects and co-curricular activities, we offer many special features to meet the needs of students from other countries.

Students are welcome to our school either for short-term or long-term study. We provide an excellent ESOL programme, a special system of pastoral care, and recreational activities which ensure that international students gain full benefit from their time in New Zealand.

Girls at Waitaki Girls' High School are very proud of their school. We are a PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) school and our values are based on developing learners who are: Respectful, Responsible and Resilient. We blend a strong sense of tradition with an increasing focus on the use of modern learning approaches. Our grounds and facilities are pleasant and well maintained, including a vibrant boarding hostel providing a "home away from home" for girls who need it.

Research backs up that girls learn better in a girls' school. Girls take on all leadership roles and support and mentor younger students. Our supportive pastoral system has the Whānau Group as the first link, followed by a strong House System. We have over fifty clubs including many varieties of sport (you name it; we play it), cultural activities and service groups. Our Kapa Haka and Pasifika groups are strong performers who stand tall in their mana and cultural pride. We have strong links with our community.
We offer a strong curriculum programme that promotes excellence and striving to reach one's potential. This is evidenced in our very good NCEA results. We are interested in the whole person – excellence of character as well as academic ability – we offer a curriculum that inspires resilience, resourcefulness, reflection and positive relationships.
