Summary

The PGDipLT is a professional language-teaching qualification. Combining theory with practice, it will familiarise you with current teaching approaches in the field of foreign language teaching. You can explore a variety of areas, such as materials development, course and syllabus design, task-based language teaching, the structure of language, and computer-assisted language learning. The PGDipLT can provide you with a pathway to the Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics.

Entry criteria

You must have completed one of the following at a recognised university (or similar institution):

  • A Bachelor of Arts in a relevant subject, or equivalent prior study
  • Any Bachelors degree, or equivalent prior study, and at least two years of second language teaching

Note: A relevant subject may include Linguisitcs or a language or other relevant subject as determined by the Programme Director.

In exceptional circumstances the requirements may be waived by the relevant Associate Dean Academic, or nominee, if they determine that you have at least three years of relevant practical, professional or scholarly experience.

English language requirements

If you are an international applicant whose first language is not English you will need to provide evidence of your English proficiency.

You will require an IELTS Academic score of 6.5 with no bands less than 6.0.
