Summary

Biomedical science is dedicated to a better understanding of the human body, its systems and the mechanisms underlying diseases. This fundamental knowledge is essential for developing innovative diagnostic tools, treatments and preventative strategies. This programme is designed to equip high-achieving science graduates with the skills to design and perform biomedical research and/or translational research and effectively communicate their research through a written thesis. Students have the opportunity to undertake research under the supervision of leading scientists in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, in the Faculty of Science and the Liggins Institute. Graduates of this programme are well-positioned to contribute to advancements in key areas like drug discovery, immunology, genomics, microbiology, neuroscience, molecular medicine, and cancer biology and therapeutics. By studying biomedical science, you can play an active role in contributing to improving the health and well-being of individuals and communities.

Entry criteria

You need to have completed a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biomedical Science or a Postgraduate Diploma in Biomedical Science with a GPA of 5.0 or higher. In exceptional circumstances, these requirements may be waived by the Associate Dean Academic, or nominee, if it is determined that you have a Bachelors degree and relevant practical, professional or scholarly experience equivalent to one year of postgraduate study. You need to have either: completed a Bachelor of Science with a major in Biomedical Science, and have a GPA of 5.0 or equivalent prior study. completed a Bachelor of Science with a major in Biomedical Science, and have a GPA of 5.0 in 60 points above stage II. completed a Bachelor of Science with a major in Biomedical Science, and passed 60 points in a relevant postgraduate certificate or postgraduate diploma (or 60 points of relevant 700 level courses) with a GPA of 5.0, provided the certificate or diploma has not been awarded. In exceptional circumstances, these requirements may be waived by the Associate Dean Academic, or nominee, if it is determined that you have at least three years of relevant practical, professional, or scholarly experience.
