Summary

New Zealand’s demand for Engineering professionals continues to grow with the sector’s needs. After consulting with industry partners, we’ve identified a need for capacity and capability-building amongst Engineering graduates to meet the growing demand for engineers in New Zealand. The MProfEng will help graduates develop well-rounded skills so they can make a positive contribution to employers and society upon leaving university.

The MProfEng programme is designed to meet the requirements of the Washington Accord, the global standard for accredited Engineering degrees. This will provide graduates with a pathway towards Chartered Professional Engineers (or similar), and will also support our graduates’ global mobility as professional engineers.

If your existing degree does not have the Washington Accord accreditation and you want to progress your career to become a chartered engineer, apply for MProfEng degree – because the MProfEng is accredited and gives you the option to progress to become Chartered Engineer after graduating.

However, if your existing Bachelors degree is Washington Accord accredited, you can apply for the Master of Civil Engineering as the most appropriate next step in your education. This is because the MCivilEng is more appropriate for people who already have a Washington Accord bachelors degree.

Accreditation status: Provisional accreditation against the Washington Accord Awarded by Engineering New Zealand July 2024. Full accreditation expected in 2026.
