Let the language flow | Tukuna te reo kia rere
This te reo Māori programme is designed to help you develop your speaking skills in everyday situations. Our friendly and supportive kaiako will guide you through the process, helping you to build confidence in your intermediate-level te reo.
By the end of this programme, you will be able to listen and speak te reo Māori most of the time, giving you the confidence to communicate effectively in various settings.
You will learn these things and moreAt the end of each course, you will have an overnight noho, which offers further opportunities to immerse yourself in te ao Māori and expand your understanding of te reo me ōna tikanga.

Kura pō | Part-time night classesWednesday evening classes run from 5 - 9 pm, and include a shared kai.
Te Reo Ohooho | Wednesday eveningsTe Reo Ohooho classes are available for anyone who has Māori whakapapa. It is optional but highly recommended as a safe and positive way to connect, revitalise and grow your reo.
If you included your iwi affiliations or identify as Māori in the enrolment process, we will put you in the Te Reo Ohooho class. Please email enrolments@nmit.ac.nz if you do not wish to be in this class or have any pātai.
Kura rā | Full-time day classesDaytime classes run from 9 am - 3 pm, Tuesday to Friday. One of the advantages of studying full-time is that you can progress your learning with Level 1 in Semester One and then apply and go on to study Level 2 from July in Semester Two.

Te Puna Manaaki (The spring of support and guidance) is the dedicated learner support service available to all Māori learners enrolled at NMIT.

The successful completion of this certificate allows you to enrol in the Te Pōkairua Reo (Rumaki) (Kaupae 5) immersion programme.
Skills developed in this programme will enhance chances of employment in a number of fields where a basic knowledge of te reo Māori is required.
NCEA Level 2 with passes in Te Reo Māori, or
Te Reo Rangatira at NCEA Level 2, or
Successful achievement of Te Pōkaitahi Reo (Te Kaupae 3) or evidence of successful achievement of an intermediate level Reo programme or equivalent Reo skills and knowledge as approved by the Curriculum Manager or designated staff member.
If you are aged 20 years or above and do not meet the academic entry requirements, but your skills, education or work experience indicate you will have a chance of success, you may be eligible for special admission by the Curriculum Manager or designated staff member.
English Language requirementsA level of English sufficient to be able to study at this level.
If English is not your first language you should have an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) General or Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5 or other approved English language tests may be used to demonstrate that the English standard is met.
