Summary

If you want the skills to support career planning and development for your students, clients or organisation, then this blended learning programme is for you.

Choose four subjects; either three level 7 and one level 6 course or four level 7 courses and build a solid theoretical foundation in career guidance and development.

Catering to ākonga (students) from all walks of life who may be looking to add value to their current qualifications and make a difference in their workplace, this blended learning programme is mostly completed online with some on-campus workshops.

Graduates can pursue careers in a multitude of sectors including education, human resources and community and government organisations.

Also suitable for professionals that want to focus on developing strengths within their teams, or if you are looking to work across the career development profession.

CDANZ membership

A qualification in Career Development at level 6 or higher fulfils part of the requirements of full membership for Career Development Association of New Zealand (CDANZ).

Blended learning

This programme is mostly completed online, attendance at workshops on the Nelson Campus is required for some courses.*

Self-directed study

Expect to spend 12 to 15 hours per course each week to complete this programme successfully.

Entry criteria

Entry is open to degree graduates. However, those applicants who demonstrate equivalent practical, professional or educational experience of an appropriate kind may be granted admission.

It is strongly recommended that you have some experience working in a careers related position.

English language requirements

All applicants must have a level of English sufficient to be able to study at this level. Those learners whose first language is not English must have: An International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall academic score of at least 6.5 (with at least 6.0 in each band) issued within the last two years, or equivalent.

Special Entry requirements

In exceptional circumstances, if you do not meet the academic requirements, you may be granted entry to the programme. You must supply evidence (e.g. professional certifications and relevant work experience documents) to satisfy the Head of Department or delegate of your ability to succeed on the Graduate Certificate in Career Development programme.
