This degree programme is offered by AUT at the Nelson Campus. It is available to graduates of the Diploma in Applied Fitness and the New Zealand Diplomas in Sport, Recreation and Exercise.

After completing the NZ Diploma in Sport Recreation and Exercise (Level 5 and 6), graduates can transfer into the Bachelor of Sport and Recreation programme for a final year to complete a Bachelor of Sport and Recreation.

During the year, you will complete a large-scale project within an area of sports and recreation that you are interested in.

Building on the skills and knowledge you have learned in the Level 5 and Level 6 programmes, you will become more confident with understanding the physiology of humans and understanding how to work with them to improve their life through health, fitness, sport and recreation.

Great Facilities

The exercise science and physiology lab feature the most up-to-date equipment in Te Tauihu. As a fitness student, you have your own gym onsite as well.

Offsite facilities available include the Saxton running track, TRU High Performance Gym, local pools and squash courts.

During the programme, you will also make the most of our region’s excellent outdoor activities, including paddle boarding, kayaking, mountain biking, white water rafting and adventure racing.
