Ready to take your business to the next level? Want the confidence to present your business plan for growth to finance professionals? Let's go!
This programme has been designed specifically for owners and managers of businesses within the viticulture, horticulture, apiculture, aquaculture and farming industries. Or for staff with relevant industry experience and ready to advance into a management capacity.
Learners will be able to directly apply what they have learnt to their own business with a blended delivery, ideal for people who are working.
You can expect face-to-face courses offered on-site, block courses and online learning, which will simplify how you can study around your work commitments.
Students in this programme will:
Working in partnership
NMIT works in partnership with Primary ITO to help keep students' skills relevant, take their careers to the next level, and achieve their business goals. Within the partnership, students are enrolled and managed by NMIT, the Primary ITO is responsible for recruitment and on-site support, and NMIT will deliver the block courses.
Programme delivery
It is recommended that each course is taken in order, but they may be undertaken differently to suit work timetables, except for Primary Industry Business Planning, which is a capstone paper and must be taken last.
A Primary ITO Training Adviser will visit students on-site and assess their skills and knowledge through a professional conversation. Students will be asked to produce naturally occurring evidence, like current budgets, business plans, or lending proposals – these are the documents they use in their everyday management of their business.
NMIT students studying other primary industry programmes will continue to enjoy the learning support they already receive as they study for the diploma and attend the block courses.
All applicants should demonstrate a keen interest in primary industry business management (and preferably have current employment or involvement in a primary industry business) and have academic attributes which demonstrate that they have a reasonable likelihood of successful completion of the programme.
All enrolments in the New Zealand Diploma in Primary Industry Business Management programme are at the discretion of the Programme Manager in consultation with the Head of Faculty as required.
Important note: For completion of assessments, learners entering this programme should be in a position to access financial, management, production and performance information about a specific primary industry business, and to manage production factors of a specific business.
