Summary
IntroductionThe Diploma in University Studies (DipUniSt) allows for conditional entry into first year degree courses for students who are just short of NCEA University Entrance or have been away from study for a while. Upon successful completion of the DipUniSt, students can begin the second year of their bachelor’s degree.
The Diploma in University Studies combines introductory studies in your chosen subject area, the skills to succeed at degree level, and a comprehensive introduction to university life.
Offering extra workshops and tutorials, the diploma is designed to help you build your skills as a learner and introduce you to all the academic, community, and social opportunities available at the University of Canterbury.
This programme is offered to domestic students (New Zealand or Australian citizens).

Entry criteria
Entry requirementsFor entry to the Diploma, you will need to have:
- at least 32 NCEA Level 3 credits across three University Entrance approved subjects
- met the numeracy component for University Entrance.
- met the literacy component for University Entrance
