Summary

Want to study for a diploma or bachelor but your English needs further improvement to be successful? Study English and get the skills to succeed in further study and in your career. You will learn the language skills and gain the knowledge you need to participate in further academic study, including five unit standards to gain credits toward meeting University Entrance (UE) literacy requirements. You will also develop the interpersonal and intercultural skills required to study, work and live in the multicultural environment of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Entry criteria

Applicants must meet the following entry criteria
  • Have New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 3) (Applied); or
  • Provide evidence of an overall IELTS (Academic) band score of 5.5; or
  • A level comparable to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) low B2.
Special & discretionary admission

Any ākonga who is 20 years of age or older and has not reached the general admission requirements for their intended programme is eligible for Special Admission. MIT works with the ākonga to ensure they are prepared for their intended programme. Any ākonga who is not yet 20 years of age and has not reached the general admission requirements for their intended programme may be eligible for Discretionary Admission. In assessing whether to grant Discretionary Admission, the delegated authority focuses on the applicant’s level of preparedness for their intended programme.
