About this programme

This is a nationally recognised qualification designed specifically for the fencing industry, in association with Fencing Contractors Association NZ (FCANZ).The programme itself will be a combination of in-work, site visit, online, and block course learning, designed with the hands-on workers of the industry in mind.

The programme will have a total of four two day block courses bi-monthly (one for each topic excluding rural vehicles which will be run separately), and the programme will run to its completion over a twelve month period.

Assessments will be a combination of logbooks, employer attestations, evidence portfolios and video logs, with only a few written assessment requirements.

What you will learn

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

• Maintain health and safety in a fencing workplace
• Operate and maintain machinery and/or equipment for a fencing workplace
• Use vehicles to access rural fence lines and transport fencing equipment safely
• Construct electric and non-electric fences
• Identify and perform routine repairs and maintenance on rural electric and non-electric fences.

Graduates of this certificate will have the skills and knowledge to be employed as rural fencers or to be employed in a rural enterprise in a role with some responsibility for constructing of electric and nonelectric rural fences, and maintaining rural fences.

When is this course?

This course involves  a blended learning format, combining online study and practical evidence from within the individual student’s current workplace environment. The online component allows students to complete theory work at their own pace, developing self-management and digital literacy skills, supported by tutors who provided additional support and learning materials to suit students both group and individual requirements based again on their employment or business needs, this in turn provides a structured learning platform that is  constantly developing to meet ever changing  industry requirements in all facets of fencing.
