Summary

The New Zealand Certificate In English Language (NZCEL) is a no-IELTS pathway into academic studies.

The aim of the NZCEL is to equip learners with English language proficiency and the academic skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing to enable them to successfully participate in a diploma or bachelor degree level programme of study.

The New Zealand Certificate In English Language (NZCEL) (Level 4) is a full-time, 14 week pathway course designed to help students to achieve success in their tertiary studies. The NZCEL (L4) will equip learners with English language proficiency and the academic skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing to enable them to successfully enter a diploma or bachelor degree level programme of study without having to complete IELTS.

NZCEL (L4) is the pathway to NZCEL (L5).

Entry criteria

  • Successful completion of AIS EAP (under General English approval); or
  • Successful completion of AIS General English Intermediate Level; or
  • IELTS 5.5 (General or Academic) (with no band less than 5.0) / TOEFL iBT 46 (with a writing score of 14) / PTE academic score of 42 / AIS Test of English Proficiency (TEP) 48/80 (with no band less than 11); or
  • NZCEL (Applied) (Level 3); and
  • 16 years and over
