Summary

With our New Zealand Certificate in Education Support (Level 4) you gain the skills to play an important role in young learners' lives by supporting them during their education. This qualification will prepare you for a career supporting learners across the early childhood, school and community education sectors. If you are currently working as a teacher aide, learning assistant, providing education support, this programme is a great way to gain formal recognition and new skills that you can apply straight to your job. While you study this online programme you must volunteer or work in an education setting for five hours per week. You will be responsible for assisting teachers by helping learners with their learning programme and other needs.

  • providing assistance by planning, implementing and evaluating small group learning sessions

You can study this programme part-time if you’re an international student living in New Zealand or overseas. If you’re living in New Zealand you will need to be in paid employment with a valid work permit.

Entry criteria

To enrol in this programme you need to be a minimum of 17 years of age at the start of the programme:

You also need to: • be in paid or voluntary employment for at least five hours a week within an early childhood, school or community education setting to meet the on-the-job requirements of the programme. • As part of required safety checks, your workplace will obtain a police vet on your behalf when you first start. There may be a delay while your police vet is obtained and your enrolment will not be processed until we have confirmation that the police vet has been processed and if you are a volunteer, you have a start date.

International students must also have an IELTS (Academic) score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5.0, or equivalent.
Cambridge English Qualifications – B2 First or B2 First for Schools with a score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill.
