The Bachelor of Sport and Exercise (Physical Education) will provide you with the perfect foundation to use your talents in a professionally satisfying and productive way.

Physical education has long been recognised as an important part of an overall education. This major will provide you with the knowledge and skills to perform and teach aspects of physical education, exercise and sport in educational contexts.

As a graduate, you’ll be knowledgeable about aspects of physical education, particularly as it relates to the breadth and potential of human movement. You will be able to demonstrate the application of key teaching principles in movement education, especially as they relate to youth.

This major takes an interdisciplinary approach to study. You will:

gain insights on movement education from a socio-cultural and biophysical perspective

gain a big-picture view of the potential of physical education, taught well, to be a major positive force in society.

Further study

You could become a primary or secondary school PE teacher, by completing Massey’s Graduate Diploma of Learning and Teaching. The secondary diploma qualifies you as a teacher of health and physical education.

Entry criteria

All students must meet university entrance requirements to be admitted to the University. To be admitted to an undergraduate qualification, you will need a minimum level of academic achievement from school, or another university or tertiary institution.

Specific requirements

There are no specific entry requirements for this qualification, outside of university admission regulations.

International English Language Requirements:

  • IELTS - 6.0 overall and minimum 5.5 in each band
  • TOEFL iBT - Overall score 80, minimum 19 in Writing
  • Cambridge English - B2 First, or B2 First for schools, or C1 Advanced, or C2 Proficiency with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill.
  • NCEL - Level 4 (Academic)
  • PTE - 50 overall and minimum 42 in each communicative skills
  • LanguageCert - C1 Expert IESOL (LRWS) with PASS and no less than Pass in each skill
