Summary

This programme is designed to enable you to perform the vital role that accounting plays across all facets of business today.

You’ll learn about up-to-date accounting principles and practices including how to: record and process financial transactions using accounting software; apply tax rules for compliance; utilise accounting concepts to prepare statements; communicate financial information; prepare budgets; assess risks; and adhere to professional ethics. To complement your technical accounting learning, you’ll also study core areas of business including organisational structures and cultures, business functions and environments, and influences for change and innovation.

Part-time up to five years.

Entry criteria

Academic Requirements

All applicants must be at least 16 years of age on the date of the programme's commencement for the semester in which they wish to enrol (or provide a completed Early release form), and meet one of the following requirements:

Achievement of NCEA Level 2 including:

  • 8 Literacy credits at Level 2 or above; and
  • 14 Numeracy credits at Level 1 or above

OR An equivalent of the above

OR Successful completion of an approved qualification at Level 3 or above with a relevant pathway

If you have undertaken examinations other than NCEA (e.g. International Baccalaureate, Cambridge Examination), Ara will assess your qualification for academic entry equivalency.

Alternative Requirements

Still want to study but don't meet the Academic Requirements?

If you show that you have equivalent skills for tertiary study gained through study, work and/or life experience, you may be able to gain alternative entry.

  • Please provide a result from a test or qualification on the acceptable alternatives

  • If you are a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident, complete an Admission and Enrolment form and Ara will contact you regarding a free assessment.
  • If you are not a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent resident, please book a PTE Academic test through the Ara Examination Centre or complete an NZQA-approved English language test in your home country.
  • IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form and are valid for two years from the date of the test.
  • What if I have achieved NCEA Level 3 University Entrance?
  • You do not need to provide additional evidence of English Language skills.
