This programme is designed for learners of English as an additional language who aim to continue their English language studies or pursue academic subjects in an academic setting.
This qualification is intended for candidates of English as an additional language, who wish to pursue academic study requiring high levels of English language competency. Graduates will have the language skills required to communicate independently and effectively in a wide range of familiar and unfamiliar situations with fluency and flexibility in academic contexts. This qualification is at a level comparable to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) high B2. This qualification allows educational institutions and professional bodies to recognise the level at which the graduate can use English for academic and/or professional purposes.
International students on a visa – Students residing in New Zealand on a student visa are required to attend classes onsite in Invercargill.
International students in their home country – Students who are currently residing in their home country may choose to attend live online (synchronously) or access and review online learning materials at a time that suits them (asynchronously).
Domestic students – Students may choose to attend onsite in Invercargill, live online (synchronously), or access online learning materials asynchronously.
Assessment requirements – For all students, assessments must be completed in real time (synchronously).
To enter Level 5 programme, candidates either take a Placement Test or must have one of the following-
1. NZCEL Level 4 certificate
2. IELTS overall score of 6.0
3. PTE overall score of 50
