Performing Arts, for the purpose of this qualification, refers to competence in a minimum of three performing arts disciplines. Specifically, the qualification recognises demonstrated core knowledge, skills, and competence in the Arts and Crafts sub-fields of dance, drama, Maori performing arts, music, and/or performing arts general.
The National Certificate in Performing Arts (Level 3) is designed as a national qualification to:
provide a developed level of knowledge, skills and competence in performing arts to permit and assist a pathway to further post-secondary education and training;
meet specific industry profiles for people entering the workforce as performing artists or as other members of the performing arts industry.
The electives enable the selection of specialised knowledge and skills in three specified Arts and Crafts sub-fields.
The qualification is the third of several levels in the National Certificate Performing Arts General, and leads to higher level performing arts qualifications. While the qualification enables a selection of unit standards at level 3 or above, it is expected that nearly all students will make their selection from standards at levels 3, 4, and/or 5.
