Summary

The PGCertHSc (Medical Imaging) programme is designed for medical imaging technologists (MITs) seeking to extend their understanding of medical imaging and contribute to the improvement of clinical health services by applying their knowledge and expertise within medical imaging services.

Entry

To gain admission to the PGCertHSc(Medical Imaging), a student must:

Have completed a qualification in medical imaging, and

Hold current registration with the New Zealand Medical Radiation Technologists Board (MRTB) in the medical imaging technologist scope of practice, or provide evidence of registration (or other evidence of the right to work) as a medical imaging technologist in their country of domicile.

Programme structure

Students are required to enrol in and complete the following courses:

30 points:

MEDIMAGE 702 - Professional Issues in Medical Imaging (15 Points)

At least 15 points from:

CLINIMAG 706 - Nuclear Medicine Specialised Clinical Applications

CLINIMAG 707 - CT Clinical Practice

CLINIMAG 710 - MRI Clinical Applications I

CLINIMAG 711 - MRI Clinical Applications II

CLINIMAG 713 - Ultrasound in Women’s Health

CLINIMAG 719 - Ultrasound Abdominal Clinical Application

CLINIMAG 720 - Ultrasound Specialised Clinical Applications

MEDIMAGE 708 - Nuclear Medicine Technology

MEDIMAGE 711 - Musculoskeletal Trauma Image Evaluation

MEDIMAGE 714 - Fundamentals of Clinical MRI

MEDIMAGE 715 - MRI Technology

MEDIMAGE 716 - Fundamentals of Clinical Ultrasound

MEDIMAGE 717 - Ultrasound Imaging Technology

MEDIMAGE 720 - Fundamentals of Clinical Nuclear Medicine

MEDIMAGE 721 - MRI Safety

MEDIMAGE 723 - Research Methods

Up to 15 points of courses from the Master of Health Sciences Schedule.

MEDIMAGE courses do not require a clinical position, although some may require access to a department with the specialist imaging modality.

Students will need to be employed in an appropriate clinical role at a site approved by the University of Auckland in order to enrol in the majority of CLINIMAG courses.

MEDIMAGE 702 - Professional Issues in Medical Imaging (15 Points)

MEDIMAGE 716 - Fundamentals of Clinical Ultrasound (15 Points)

MEDIMAGE 717 - Ultrasound Imaging Technology (15 Points)

Entry criteria

To gain admission to the PGCertHSc (Medical Imaging), a student must:

have completed an undergraduate degree in medical imaging (or similar) at a recognised university (or similar institution) and have registration with the Medical Radiation Technologists Board or as a medical radiation technologist.

IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 6.5 with no bands less than 6.0; Internet-based TOEFL (iBT): Overall score of 90 and written score of 21; Paper-based TOEFL: Overall score of 68 and a writing score of 21; Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) or Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE): Overall score of 176 and no bands below 169; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: Overall score of 58 and no PTE Communicative score below 50; Foundation Certificate in English for Academic Purposes (FCertEAP): Grade of B-; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB): 85.
