Gain the skills for a career in physical wellness, exercise and sport science with UCOL's New Zealand Certificate in Exercise.

UCOL's New Zealand Certificate in Exercise provides students with the knowledge to prescribe, deliver and adapt fitness programmes for the general population, including people with common health issues.

Practicum

Your studies include 25 practicum hours working with a client on their health goals.

Career & Study Outcomes

Graduates of UCOL's New Zealand Certificate in Exercise will be able to deliver safe and effective exercise programmes to clients. Employment opportunities include:

  • Exercise consultant
  • Community exercise instructor
  • Team training instructor
  • Personal trainer

Graduates will be eligible to register with the New Zealand Register of Exercise Professionals for Personal Trainer Contractor Registration Level.

Education pathway

New Zealand Certificate in Exercise (Level 5)

Bachelor of Applied Science (with majors in Physical Health and Wellness, Strength and Conditioning, and Sport and Recreation Management)

Entry criteria

  • NCEA Level 2 OR
  • Equivalent academic achievement OR
  • On a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Executive Dean.

English language Requirement: IELTS - General or Academic: Score of 5.5 with no band lower than 5; TOEFL (iBT) - Score of 46 (with a writing score of 14); Cambridge English Qualifications - B2 with score of 162; no less than 154 in each skill; OET - Minimum Grade C or 200 in all subtests; NZCEL - Level 3 (Applied); and Pearson Test of English (Academic) - Score of 42 with no band less than 36.

Applicants under 20 years of age:

For international applicants under 20 years of age who do not hold NCEA, International Academic Qualifications Entry Criteria apply (Entry requirements vary from country to country).
