The PGDipMaterialsEng is for those who aspire to a career in materials processing and production, manufacturing, new materials deployment and development disciplines either in a technical or management role. This is well-suited to professionals looking to upgrade their knowledge in the materials engineering field.

Materials engineering challenges us to discover and design new materials that look in detail at the structure, properties and performance of basic resources that make up the world. Innovations in this space are often at the core of new technologies that change the way we live. The PGDipMaterialsEng offers a balanced understanding of materials design, synthesis and deployment, whilst cultivating management skills.

Specialisations in biomaterials engineering, energy and environmental materials, and advanced materials processing are also available.

Entry criteria

Taught 120 points with GPE 3.0. You must have completed Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), or an undergraduate degree in a relevant field with a minimum GPE of 3.0.

IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 6.5 and bands less than 6.0; Internet-based TOEFL (iBT): Overall score of 90 and written score of 21; Paper-based TOEFL: Overall score of 68 and a writing score of 21; Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) or Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE): Overall score of 176 and no bands below 169; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: Overall score of 58 and no PTE Communicative score below 50; Foundation Certificate in English for Academic Purposes (FCertEAP): Grade of B-; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB): 85.
