The Bachelor of Design is creative and practical, with strong input from industry partners like Weta Workshop, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, Auckland Art Gallery, Creative New Zealand and Kate Sylvester.
As a Bachelor of Design student you have access to world-class facilities, collaborate with other art and design students, and in your final year you may be able to showcase your work at the AUT School of Art and Design festival or the AUT Rookie fashion show.
Develop expertise in interaction design for a range of contemporary and future-orientated contexts, technologies and platforms.
Interaction design focuses on both digital interfaces, as well as physical artefacts. This includes digital web platforms (including desktop, mobile and other devices), apps and product interfaces. It can also include design for information systems, way-finding and navigation systems, digital dashboards and controls, as well as wearable technologies and augmented and virtual spaces.
Career opportunities
Interaction designers work collaboratively with a range of other professionals, including UX designers, software engineers, industrial designers and product managers.
Key features
All applicants need to meet AUT’s minimum entry requirements qualification equivalent to New Zealand year 13 and Portfolio of art work.
Minimum IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 overall with all bands 5.5 or higher; or equivalent; TOEFL iBT score of 80; Certificate in English for Academic Study (CertEAS) with B/B+ grade; GIE with B grade; CAE minimum overall score of 169; PTE minimum overall score of 50.
