This programme is intended for people who want to engage in adult and tertiary teaching in the context of teaching underwater diving. They will be delivering education or training in a workplace as part of their role.
Although the programme is designed to enhance a student's skills and knowledge for roles as an instructor working in dive shops and dive tourism enterprises; the skills and attributes required for an adult and tertiary educator are transferrable to other contexts.
The programme has a strong practical, and authentic teaching or training settings. Students will learn how to design and deliver learning sessions for adults; use standards to assess candidates' performance; review, evaluate and identify areas of improvement for own adult education teaching practice. Students will learn how to engage in adult and tertiary teaching in the context of teaching underwater diving by Instructing a PADI Navigation Course; Instructing a PADI Search & Recovery Course; and Instructing a PADI Deep Diving Course.
The use of international learning materials and assessments from the Professional Association of Diving (PADI) ensures that the programme stays current with international best practice.
Graduates of the programme will be awarded the New Zealand Certificate in Adult and Tertiary Teaching (Level 4).
