The New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation is your pass to an exciting future in art, media, or design. This programme is ideal if you want to go on to higher-level study in art and design. It starts with a base in Identity and Communication, then starts to build your art and design knowledge, in both individual work and collaborative projects.

Entry criteria

For this programme, you will need the following:

A minimum of 4 years’ secondary education;
Be 16 years old by the time the programme starts;
A minimum total of 40 NCEA credits at level 2 in four subjects, including:

A minimum of 12 English credits at level 1 or higher;
University Entrance numeracy (or equivalent);

If you haven't met the above NCEA requirements, you'll need one of the following:

A relevant qualification at Level 3 on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework or equivalent qualifications (e.g. International Baccalaureate or Cambridge), or;
The New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 3);
After you have submitted your application to study at Unitec, you may be asked to attend a skills review session to assess your literacy and numeracy levels. This helps us to enrol you in the best programme and courses for your career pathway.

English Language Requirements: IELTS test: General or Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5. TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT): Score of 46 (with a writing score of 14); PTE (Academic) score of 42 with no band score lower than 36; Cambridge English Qualifications: B2 First or B2 First for schools with a score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill. OET: Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests. NZCEL - Level 3 (Applied). Language Cert - B2 Communicator International ESOL Written (LRW) PASS with no less than 25/50 in each skill and Spoken (S) PASS.
