Start here and learn the technical and creative skills you need to become a junior hairdresser.
Express your personal style as you learn basic techniques of cutting and styling hair. Get familiar with a range of colour treatments including applying and removing hair colouring products. This qualification will also help you develop the skills you need to work at the front desk in a salon.
When you graduate, you will be ready to get a job as a junior hairdresser. Or, you can further develop your hairdressing skills with our Level 4 programme.

You will need to complete the following seven courses (120 credits):
891.328 Shampooing and Treatments (15 credits)
891.333 Introduction to Styling and Finishing Hair (15 credits)
891.334 Elementary Sectioning and Cutting (15 credits)
891.335 Elementary Salon Practice (15 credits)
891.336 Fundamental Hair Styling and Finishing (15 credits)
891.337 Fundamentals Colouring and Chemical Treatments (30 credits)

Further training or study
New Zealand Certificate in Hairdressing (Emerging Stylist) (Level 4)
Applicants are required to complete Year 12 or equivalent of secondary school.
IELTS test: General or Academic score of 5 with no band score lower than 5; TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT): Score of 500 (with an essay score of 4 TWE); TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT): Score of 35 (with a writing score of 14); Cambridge English Examinations: B2 First or B2 First for Schools with a score of 154. No less than 154 in each skill; OET - Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests; Pearson Test of English (Academic): PTE (Academic) score of 36 with no band score lower than 36.
