Summary

The Postgraduate Diploma in Forestry caters for graduates who:

  • have a forestry degree or a qualification in a related area and wish to update and retrain
  • have another degree and are looking for some exposure to forestry
  • are from countries where the forestry degree is less quantitative than in Aotearoa New Zealand.

How do I plan my degree?

The PGDipFor programme is made up of a minimum of 120 points. These courses can be chosen from the Master of Forestry Science Schedule (excluding FORE 679), and normally includes a forestry management or a silviculture course.

Further study

The postgraduate diploma can be used as a platform for possible to the Master of Forestry Science with suitable grades. UC also offers a Doctor of Philosophy in Forestry.

Entry criteria

Candidates must have completed one of the following:

  • the equivalent of a bachelor's degree in forestry or a related area of study; or
  • a bachelor's or higher degree in other areas, and relevant work experience in a forestry-related area.

Applicants must also satisfy our English language entry requirements:

  • IELTS (Academic): Minimum overall score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in reading, writing, listening and speaking.
  • TOEFL (IBT): Minimum overall score of 90, with a minimum score of 19 in Reading, Listening and Writing.
  • PTE (Pearson Test of English - Academic): Overall score of 58 and no communicative skills score below 50.

Application deadline: At least 6 months before the planned start date.
